Gentle Spirit

Proverbs 31:20

“She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.”

Peace and gentleness

It’s not something I’m used to…

  • Becoming a gentle spirit is not an automatic personality trait for most of us. With all of the issues and distractions in life, there are days when the last thing we want to do is be “gentle” about anything. Walking with God and living out a Christian lifestyle takes patience and understanding about what we do and why we do certain things on a daily basis.

  • It’s very easy to fall back into our old way of living and sometimes we just don’t “feel” like being the best person we can be today or tomorrow. Everyday life seems to pull us here and there and before we know it, the week has gone by, we’ve yelled at our kids, the dog, the neighbors, or we get exhausted with work, etc., and it goes on and on.

  • Is it any wonder why it’s so difficult to be that gentle woman? Even still, with all of the chaos and noise in our lives, God truly does expect us to be more peaceful. The journey of a Proverbs 31 woman can be one of the most daunting experiences, because it requires us to go the extra mile and/or miles even when we don’t want to.

Sacrifice the daily chaos

Building faith can be difficult when life gets hard…

  • We already know that being a Christian takes a sacrifice; of our time and ourselves, but this is no surprise to God, because He organized it that way. Not to push us down or discourage us, but for us to rely on our faith, His faith. Even when we feel like we don’t have the strength or ability, He is always there encouraging us to keep moving and pressing forward. His love is so great and encompasses everything we touch. He will never leave us or forsake us, in the good times and even in the bad when we feel like He is nowhere to be found.

  • So, ask yourself….am I a gentle spirit and do I have the where-with-all to be one? Pray about it and spend time with God. He will lead you and guide you every day. Will you achieve this great task tomorrow? Probably not. Or what about next week? I doubt that too. But stay encouraged, because if you stay faithful and don’t give in to the pressures of life and the world, you will accomplish it. Will you trip and fall…most likely, but you have to start somewhere, and the beginning is always the best place.

Baby steps is what it takes to accomplish most things in our lives, because you didn’t start running on the day you took your first step did you? No. And walking with God is the same way. Persevere and keep going, don’t be so hard on yourself and soon one day you will realize that you have become gentler and more peaceful than you used to be. It works every time.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Galatians 5:22-23.
