Place of Rest
Proverbs 31:13
“She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.”
Building the house
Her heart is in the home…
With over 25 years of Interior Design experience, I know all too well how to design and decorate a home, making it as beautiful as anyone could want or need. As a woman, our homes are a reflection of who we are and a safe place after a long day. Whether single with a dog and two cats or married with 3 children and a messy husband, home is where the heart is and where we can spend time with family, be creative or just get away from it all.
To have a great looking home with all the decor you could want is one thing, but to be the shelter of safety and security as well as beauty, is another. Decorating a home is fun and it has endless possibilities, but God requires us to also be disciplined in our decor. So what does that mean? Most people don’t have a home that looks like it stepped out of Architectural Digest, and even those that do, get messy and comfortable once the photographers leave.
Daily Life and Routines
It’s not as boring as you think…
What is really needed is structure, routine and boundaries. Not just for children, but also for men and women. It’s what keeps us grounded, disciplined and secure. Sure, everyone gets messy after “movie night”, but it’s more than that. For example, making sure there is always a kitchen thriving with good food, recipes, cookbooks (even if you don’t entertain or have house parties often), surrounding the dinner table with conversation and a great meal is a healthy thing; mentally and physically.
I grew up with a Southern mom that taught me so much when it comes to cooking and being a great host. I can’t imagine raising a family without these skills. The kitchen is one of the most important places in the home and where you and your children will remember story after story spending time with each other making silly cupcakes, a Christmas dinner or just plain ole’ pizza. It doesn’t matter; time is valuable with the ones we love.
Slice of Heaven
Interior Design always works best…
Understand that God expects us to utilize our skills and to make our homes safe, pretty, organized and comfortable, where we can relax and be ourselves. To enjoy your home, with all of its structure, complexity, beauty and routine are some of the greatest compliments you can achieve. I know. I’ve helped people do it countless times and no-one ever complains when we get it right. It’s like a small slice of Heaven!
So, go out there and be the creative force that God wants you to be, whether you live in a mansion or a tiny home, it doesn’t matter. It’s all yours. Make it the best you can, strive for that “look” you’ve always wanted, “work willingly with your hands” as the scripture says and you will notice how great it feels for such an accomplishment. It’s worth every minute!
“My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest”
