Let there be Light
Ephesians 5:8
"For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light."
How did I get here
I feel so lost most of the time…
Have you ever been driving at night on a long, winding road, not a streetlight in sight and all you can see are your headlights a few feet in front of you? Do you ever wonder if it’s going to get darker and darker and it seems like the road is never going to end and here you are stuck in the middle of nowhere asking yourself, “How did I get here?” You’re not alone; we have all been there and during those times fear and worry can set in, confusing the situation even more.
You are wondering how long is this going to last and how do I get back to familiar surroundings? Doesn’t it seem like that with current situations in life? Never knowing which way to turn, to the left or the right? Life can put us on many different pathways that we don’t understand and at times we can’t seem to get off the road we have been traveling on for months or even years.
Fortunately, there is a way out and knowing God is a great comfort during these times of uncertainty. We can get lost and off-track for whatever reason (distraction is a huge issue) and before we know it we wind up in a place or situation we never wanted to be in. It happens to everyone one time or another, but God knows that we don’t always have it all together, all the time. He is merciful, patient and understanding knowing that we need to take some time, realize what we have done to cause the delay(s) and help us to get back on His pathway.
God is the Light
I’ve wasted so much time; how do I get it back…
Darkness and confusion can wreak havoc on our lives and cost us many years of wasted time. But have you asked yourself, “Is it really wasted?” Because of our free will, God gives us the ability to explore, learn and develop enough knowledge in our lifetimes, not only to build our characters, but also to learn how to follow Him, especially during the difficult times.
God is the way; He is the Light that shines on all creation. He has been and always will be the Alpha and Omega. The first and the last, the beginning and the end. He knows all and sees all. Our delays, confusion and tears do not prevent Him from blessing us or deleting the purpose He has for us. Nor does He hide His face when we turn our backs on Him, thinking we know what is best. Fortunately, He brings us around, we realize our mistakes, repent and begin to follow Him again.
Life is hard with all of its ups and downs and darkness can be consuming at times, whether it’s a tough job we are dealing with or issues with family and our home life. We all need help from God to lift us up, just like a loving Father would do for His child. He will bring all the joy and the light back into our lives, reassuring us that He alone is capable of helping us, when no-one else would or could. The Bible says that, “He is ever present, never leaving or forsaking us.” That is a huge statement considering that He loves us much more than we love Him due to our incapable emotions that lead us astray constantly. We need to always stay vigilant in prayer and spend time with Him building a relationship that will last for eternity.
Stay close to Jesus
His ways are higher than ours…
Connecting to Jesus and what He has to say in His word, depending on the situation we are facing, keeps us strong and faithful. The more we fall and come back to Him, the easier it gets over time to stay connected and to not go astray. He will stop promotions to get our attention, close doors, chase away people out of our lives, etc., all the while we are confused and in tears not understanding anything, but God is perfect in all of His ways, and He allows these situations to protect us and help us to grow into His calling.
Once we figure out that our will is not really what we want to achieve His purpose, we stop fighting and become more peaceful and at rest. Assuring that He is always with us in good times and bad is a great comfort. Not everything will go our way and His understanding on these matters are far above our human capacity. His ways are always higher than ours and He never does anything or allows anything to happen unless it’s for a specific reason.
We may not know why things happen, but in time everything will be revealed and then we will have “His” understanding. We may have to wait until we get to Heaven to get the answer, or we can get it in a week, but just know that your best interests are always His concern.
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
