“She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Food choices

Am I being wise enough with my health…

  • Our families are one of the most important things in our lives as women. Especially if we are mothers, we want our children to grow up healthy, strong and set a good example for the future. As a Proverbs 31-woman, God requires us to choose wisely when it comes to food choices. Unfortunately, in today’s society, it can be a bit of a maze when struggling with proper nutrition.

  • Many women must work these days to make ends meet and at times, our eating habits suffer. We work long hours and without proper sleep, it feels like we are burning the candle at both ends. If we don’t take the time to learn to cook for ourselves and our loved ones, instead of running to the fast-food places or eating out all the time, health problems will and can arise.

  • So much of the food today is nothing short of preservatives and all types of harmful ingredients, so it can be a challenge attempting to figure it all out. I’m so grateful to have grown up in an era where most mothers cooked nutritious meals three times a day.

    Yesterdays Motherhood

I learned from the best Mother…

  • My mother is an excellent cook, and my father even enjoyed it as well, so I received a well-rounded education with food. Even to this day, I enjoy spending time in the kitchen preparing something new and exciting. I learned at a very young age how to cook, do the dishes and an understanding of how to put certain foods together properly.

  • As a child of God, it’s important not to get into a routine of bad eating habits. Thus, causing problems with our health, our children’s health, etc.  It can snowball into disaster if not handled well. Growing our own food is a great option if you are able to do that, but I have learned to become an avid label reader, so I understand what exactly it is I may or may not be eating.

    Fresh is best

    Stay healthy for God’s purpose…

  • Fresh food is always the best option. Lowering the sugar content and easing up on carbohydrates is also another. We have all heard and read about the dos and don’ts of food, so I’m sure most people are aware of these issues.

  • God’s word says that, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. Hosea 4:6. It is vitally important to know what we are eating and how it can affect our minds and bodies. Eating healthy is one of the most important issues we should focus on. We all have a purpose driven life, and we don’t want to be un-wise in our dealings with food, causing sickness and disease for us or our children which could ultimately shorten our lives.

  • If you are unsure of where to start, I would begin with recipe books that teach you how to eat and why. It is so important to know how our bodies work and what happens when we eat the wrong things. We can destroy the perfect creation that God made and turn it into something He wouldn’t approve of. Our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit and I know I wouldn’t want my Temple to be full of toxins and junk. Unfortunately, most people don’t recognize this principle and the damage can take years to repair.

    Kitchen time is Fun

Teaching children to eat the right way…

  • Cooking is fun and should be fun. Children love to get in the kitchen and learn new things. Even if it’s messy at first, they will eventually learn how to clean properly and have a good time in the process. We don’t all have to be a great Chef, just know enough to feed ourselves and our families the right way, the Godly way, to healthy living.

  • Navigating the grocery isles can be a challenge at times, but seeking God’s wisdom in this area is extremely important. You may have to do your research, but it will be worth it in the end, to know that you are on the right path for you and your family. Children will learn from you and take those lessons into their own lives becoming productive and healthy for themselves. (Not to say you won’t catch them at McDonalds from time to time), but laying down a good foundation in their early years, will pay off in the future.

Pray to God and ask for His wisdom and guidance concerning the right way to eat for you and your family. We are all different individuals, so there is no one-size-fits-all option. What one person can tolerate, others cannot, so, find out what works best for you. God will meet you where you are today; even if you feel you have gone too far and created too much damage, He can fix it all. Trust in His plan, seek His word on this subject and He will lead and guide you.  All is not lost.

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
